Rietvallei Wine Estate
Rietvallei Wine Estate counts among SA’s oldest family-owned wine estates and was one of the first wine farms established in the picturesque Robertson Wine Valley. Storytelling has been an art in the Burger family and that art is continued by its 6th generation. Visit our Wine Estate and enjoy our range of wine tastings, chocolate and wine pairing, and our famous cheese platter.
KOBUS BURGER
RIETVALLEI WINE ESTATE
Kobus is the 6th generation Burger on the Estate and current CEO and winemaker. He and his wife Elizabeth have four beautiful children and she is actively involved in the business, managing the Manor house and venue facilities. After some practical experience in the art of winemaking at the Bergkelder in Stellenbosch and harvesting with Henri Bourgeouis in Sancerre (France), Kobus had his first harvest on Rietvallei in 2003. At this time his father, Johnny, was still at the steer and taught him the finer skills of wine making. The following year, Johnny stepped back and started to focus more on the farming side of business. In 2004 Kobus had his first harvest at Rietvallei as the winemaker and from then onwards he slowly developed Rietvallei’s portfolio to the wide variety of ranges and wines it has today.
“Coming from a line of many generations, I have the privilege of following the footsteps of great men… An honour, but also a great responsibility to always treasure our precious heritage and hard work of my predecessors, while keeping up with the change of times and cultivating new and exciting approaches to wine-making.”~ Kobus Burger, 6th Generation CEO & Wine-maker of Rietvallei.
