"Knowing how the plant functions and how to manipulate it to produce exceptional fruit is winemaking 101! After all, the grapes quality is directly linked to the wines quality."
Winemaker and viticulturist, Arthur Basson, grew up on a farm outside Darling where his father farmed wine grapes, grain and sheep. Arthur never missed a trip to the local Co-op where they delivered their grapes, always fascinated by the whole winemaking process and never leaving with a litre or two of “mos”. He attended Elsenburg and completed his Diploma in Cellar technology under the strict guidance of Loftie Ellis.
Arthur travelled overseas to work harvests in California, New Zealand, and France and harvesting locally, all to gain more experienced and knowledge.
He believes no one can call himself a winemaker if they did not spend a few years growing grapes.
